The wintry weather fanning out across central Pennsylvania Tuesday night and Wednesday may prompt some schedule adjustments at Penn State University Park, the university noted Tuesday evening.

‘In years past, weather events caused a delay in the start of activities and classes on campus,’ a university statement reads. ‘When a delay is announced at University Park, employees who perform nonessential services are to report at the announced time. Classes that begin before the announced time are canceled.’

University officials will consult information from meteorologists, the National Weather Service, state police, the state Department of Transportation and other sources as they decide whether to delay or cancel events, Penn State reported.

Any cancellation or delay announcements would be conveyed first through the university’s official channels, including WPSU radio (91.5 FM) and Penn State Live. The university noted that workers in essential services are usually expected to show up for work regardless of delays or cancellations.

They should contact their supervisors with any questions, Penn State reported.

‘Supervisors should work to accommodate employees who wish to alter their work schedules because of the weather,’ university Senior Vice President Al Horvath said in a prepared statement. ‘Staff may charge their absence to vacation time when weather conditions cause a concern for personal safety.’
