Penn State women’s basketball coach Carolyn Kieger received a contract extension Friday morning following a unanimous vote by a Board of Trustees committee.

The board’s Subcommittee on Compensation unanimously agreed to extend Kieger’s contract at Penn State but did not disclose the deal’s terms.

Kieger, who arrived at Penn State in 2019, has coached the Lady Lions to a 27-56 (.325) overall record in three seasons with the program. Across that three-year tenure, Penn State owns a 12-43 (.218) record in Big Ten play, including double-digit losses against conference foes in each season.

Pound for pound, the Lady Lions saw their best season under Kieger this past winter. Penn State posted an 11-18 overall record but lost to Rutgers in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament. The team finished 11th in the conference standings.

Although the Lady Lions lost a good deal of talent to the transfer portal this offseason, things may be looking up. Kieger’s program recently picked up commitments from former Oregon forward Chanaya Pinto and former Temple forward Alexa Williamson. Both should deepen Penn State’s roster as the team aims to take a leap next season.
