Penn State wrestling’s season-opening dual at Rutgers has been postponed because of positive COVID-19 tests within the Nittany Lion program, the team announced Wednesday night.
The road matchup was originally slated for 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.
According to a release, an undisclosed number “Tier 1” personnel of tested positive for COVID-19. “Tier 1” includes student-athletes, coaches, athletic trainers and physical therapists, medical staff, equipment staff and officials.
Penn State did not respond to a request for further comment.
All team-related activities are paused because of the positive tests. In the meantime, both Penn State and Rutgers will work with the Big Ten and attempt to reschedule the dual.
“No determination has been made on how the pause may impact scheduled matches beyond January 16,” a statement from the athletic department said.
Should the team resume activities soon, its next dual would be on Sunday, Jan. 24, when the Nittany Lions face Michigan State at Rec Hall.
